The Census of Agriculture, taken every five years, is a complete count of U.S. farms and ranches and the people who operate them. Any person with estimated or expected annual sales of agricultural products of at least $1,000 is considered a producer and should be counted. The 2012 census will be conducted late in 2012 and into 2013 to reflect 2012 farming activities. It is the voice of agriculture: Make your voice heard. Sign up to be counted by clicking on I Want to… Make sure I’m Counted on the right hand side.
The 2012 National Agricultural Classification Survey (NACS) mailed in January and February 2012 with the intent of identifying all potential agricultural activities in the United States and to gather basic agricultural information about farms. The goal is to obtain the best possible coverage for the 2012 Census of Agriculture.
It is important to respond to the survey even if you are not a farmer so that you don’t receive follow up surveys. Responding is easy by mail or online. The first few questions will determine whether you are considered an agricultural producer or not. If you are not, you will not need to continue.
Like the full Census of Agriculture, all information is completely confidential by law.
