Quick Facts

The 1999 Agricultural Economics and Land Ownership Survey (AELOS) provides statistics
on indebtedness, expenditures, income, and assets for both farm operators and landlords.
This report also includes measures of credit used for purchases and expenditures, debt by
type of lender, assets, off-farm income, and other land ownership data.

Results from the 1999 AELOS are crucial in describing the current economic health of
farms and ranches in the United States.

Although farm counts have stayed fairly stable at around 2 million for the past decade,
there have been some significant changes on the economic structures of those farms.

Below are several graphics highlighting results of the AELOS report.
